Bridge Inspection Specialist I: The essential duties for this job include: * Conducts immediate inspection of damaged bridges, determines necessity of temporary or permanent repairs and notifies maintenance personnel; makes recommendations for the closing of bridges. * Determines extent of deterioration requiring rehabilitation or replacement as the basis for planning bridge replacement and rehabilitation programs. * Ensures prompt notification and/or repair of any deterioration or damage that could be hazardous to the traveling public or more costly to repair if neglected. * Implements and monitors the bridge inspection program in a district. * Inspects and appraises bridge structures according to the Bridge Inspection Manual. * Maintains and reviews files which indicate the condition of the bridge inventory and documents compliance with bridge inspection manuals. * Oversees the bridge load-posting program. * Performs fracture-critical bridge member inspection. * Assists with quality control reviews related to bridge inspection activities and monitors needed corrective actions. * Assists with reviewing and performing scour assessments, preparing needed plans of action, and status oversight of corrective actions. * Assists with reviewing and reporting critical findings, preparing follow-up plans of action, and status oversight of corrective actions. * Records data and maintains and reviews bridge inspection files for compliance with bridge inspection manuals. * Works with Federal Highway Administration representatives to ensure compliance with regulations. * Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Work Experience Bridge Inspection Specialist I: This job requires the following: * 4 years in in either construction; construction/bridge/related structure inspec.; bridge appraisal; diving/underwater inspec. of structural elements. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent) * No Supervisory Experience Required * College education and /or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on year per year basis.education substitution includes: engineering, engineering technology, construction, construction inspection, or a related field. Bridge Inspection Specialist II: This job requires the following: * 6 years in in either construction; construction/bridge/related structure inspec.; bridge appraisal; diving/underwater inspec. of structural elements. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent) * No Supervisory Experience Required * College education and /or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on year per year basis.education substitution includes: engineering, engineering technology, construction, construction inspection, commercial dive certification or a related field. Licenses and Certifications The following Licenses and/or Certifications are required for this job: * Safety Impact Certificate * Commercial Driver Certificate * Safety Impact certifications are not required at the time of application. As required, the Safety Impact, Commercial Driver and/or Vessel Crewmember certification(s) will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire. Other Conditions: * Must (1) have successfully completed a comprehensive training course based on the FHWA's Bridge Inspector's Reference Manual (FHWA-NHI-Course No. 130055 - Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges, or an equivalent recognized by the FHWA) within one (1) year of hire, and (2) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment. * May be required to be licensed by the State of Texas for a Commercial Driver's license and endorsements applicable to the types of vehicles/equipment operated, while performing bridge or construction inspection. * This is a Safety Impact position (either Safety Impact, Commercial Driver and/or Vessel Crew Member) and will be subject to random drug testing. Conditions of Employment * Safety Impact certifications are not required at the time of application. As required, the Safety Impact, Commercial Driver and/or Vessel Crewmember certification(s) will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire. Must have a Commercial Driver License within 120 days of employment. * Must have a Commercial Driver License with endorsement within 120 days of employment. * Must pass a drug test prior to employment for commercial driver, safety impact and vessel crewmember positions. Commercial drivers, safety impact employees and vessel crewmembers will be subject to additional drug and alcohol testing during employment. * Required to work weekends and holidays. * Required to work hours other than 8 to 5. * Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions. * Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements. * Must be able to report for duty within 30 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis. * Successful completion of a criminal background check to include verification of identification and residency, and a national fingerprint-based records check at the employer's expense is required. * Driver's record check will be conducted by the Department. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving state or personal vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct agency business. * Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours. * External final applicants for any department position who could potentially be required to drive for the department must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to reasonable cause testing during employment. * External final male applicants who are 18-25 years of age will be required to furnish proof of registration or exemption from registration with the Selective Service System. * Successful completion of a post-offer/pre-employment physical exam at the employer's expense is required. * If hired, employee must provide document(s) within three (3) days of hire date that establish identity and employment eligibility.
