Job Description The Controller directly supports the day-to-day accounting activities including the cost accounting and reporting of manufacturing variances, accuracy of standard costs and inventory valuation in this manufacturing environment. The Controller will also play a key role in the month-end close process, in developing budgets/forecasts and contributing to financial process improvements. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (May include some or all of the following responsibilities) Ensure the overall propriety of all accounting functions. Support manufacturing operations financial analysis and reporting by reviewing all aspects of plant operations. Confirm plant compliance with operations related internal controls requirements Assist with preparation of Financial Statements, focus on Inventory, Cost of Goods Sold and all plant expenses Responsible for accuracy of inventory portion of Balance Sheet Coordinate cycle counts and lead physical inventories Monitor and improve internal controls as necessary Cost watchdog – Lead local team effort to maximize cost reductions Support Plant Manager, CI and others by providing meaningful financial analysis of operation Participate in the creation of new policies & procedures to improve the overall internal controls environment Assist with preparation of Forecasts, Budgets and financials for Long Range Planning Prepare presentations as needed Participates in ad hoc analyses as required. Assists with internal and external audit requests; communicates with auditors as needed; Local DCOA contact (Abilene) Safeguard compliance with financial policies, US GAAP, local statutory regulations, internal control and Sarbanes-Oxley. Performs additional requests as required. QUALIFICATIONS Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business desired CPA/CMA a plus Minimum 5 years of finance or accounting experience in a manufacturing environment Valid driver’s license to accommodate the need for travel Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability Superior analytical skills with an ability to apply solid reasoning Must be action oriented, organized, and possess strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across all levels of management. Comfortable digging into potential situations/problems and finding answers Advance skills in MS Excel and other data management systems. Experience working with engineering and manufacturing personnel and development and analysis of cost standards.
